Board members present Sandra Fontaine Lindsay Edmondson Norm Janoff Diane Bailey steven finkelstein Meeting called to order at 6:03 p.m. The May Board meeting minutes were approved. Old Business: Summer series No. 1: The board agrees that this race went well. There was discussion of the age-handicapped start with acknowledgement that not everyone likes this tradition. The Board agrees that you cannot please all of the people all of the time, and that there are many members who enjoy doing the handicapped start once a year at the Summer Series No. 1, so it should be maintained. Summer series No. 2: This race also went well. Ways to improve were discussed. Having a designated point person to answer questions would be helpful. The announcer’s failure to announce the awards winners was also addressed. Membership report: Norm Janoff reported that total memberships are at 1,063, with 1,611 individual members. Norm examined renewal rates for members to see if he could discover any trends based on members’ addresses. He found that membership renewal rates do not seem to vary based on a member’s address (east side vs. west side) and that renewal rates were consistent across the Valley. Volunteer Report: Lindsay Edmondson reported that lots of members have been volunteering for the Summer Series, making her job much easier. Registration report: Sandra Fontaine had no new business to report. Special activities report: Diane Bailey reported that she had success providing food for the last Summer Series race by having everything sliced and prepared ahead of time. New business: Summer series No. 3: steven finkelstein reported that he is all atwitter about Summer Series no. 3. The Club needs more water. Water needs were discussed. Added costs for food and water means that this race will be significantly more expensive than the other summer series races. There will be a ‘tip jar’ available for members to contribute a little more to offset the additional cost of this race if they want to. Robert Huotari will be loading the truck with water station supplies. Summer Series No. 4: Permits have been submitted and the Kiwanis Park fees have been paid. Summer Series No. 5: Sports Authority will be a Gold-level sponsor for Summer Series No. 5; they have signed a contract and will be sending a sponsorship check. The City of Surprise wants to stage a race in conjunction with the Super Bowl (last week in January 2008). steven finkelstein provided a bid from ARR for this race. Crown King: ARR still needs a race director for this race. Options were discussed. Meeting adjourned at 7:05 PM.
