BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT
Steven Finkelstein
Sharon Ross
Lindsay Edmondson

GUESTS PRESENT
Gary Culver
Bill Rowell

Meeting called to order at 6:42 library time. It is noted that there is not a quorum present, such that
no board action can be taken today.

Steven Finkelstein reported on the Goodyear Heart and Sole Run and the Litchfield Park run. Both went
well. Next year’s Litchfield Park run will be improved by using a second set of timing mats and having
different start and finish areas.

Gary Culver reported on the Crown King Scramble. The race went well with no medical emergencies. ARR
will net approximately $2,000 profit from the race.

Finance Report: No finance report as Hal Gensler is absent.

Membership Report: Norm Janoff provided membership numbers via e-mail prior to the board meeting.
Numbers are down slightly compared to last month.

Clothing Report: Sharon Ross provided a clothing report. The Club will be ordering more colored shirts
for summer. Bill Rowell discussed the benefits of a safety/glow belt, which he brought to the meeting
to display. The Club will purchase a small number of the glow belts to sell on the ARR website, with
Bill to front costs for this. Bill may also write a short story for the newsletter to promote the glow
belts and running safety in general. Finally, Sharon reported that shirts will be ordered for the
upcoming Luck of the Draw race and will have a playing card theme.

Volunteer Report: Lindsay Edmondson provided a volunteer report. Volunteers are needed for non-ARR
events in April and May for which ARR is providing timing.

Registration Report: No registration report as Sandra Fontaine is absent.

Relay for Life: Bill Rowell talked to the Board about the Relay for Life race on April 28th. ARR will
sponsor a relay team for this event. The Relay for Life raises money for cancer research. Any ARR
member can join the team or support the ARR relay team with a donation. A link will be added to the ARR
website to generate more interest.

Upcoming Club Run: The Weiner Dog Dash will be held May 5th at the Club’s warehouse (not at Papago Park). Gary Culver volunteered to measure out a 5K course for the event. This will be a fun run with an organized start time. Gary will work with Diane Bailey to organize food for the run.

Starlight Elementary School: The potential for a partnership between ARR and this school’s running
program was discussed. The Club has a desire to reach out into the community. The School’s running
program encourages its students, who are generally low-income, to run for fitness. Sharon Ross will
meet with a school representative to see if mutual benefits can be had, and report to the Board at the
next meeting.

Emergency Mode: There is discussion about the recent resignation of several Board members and the
current staffing situation for ARR. Ways to cope with the lack of personnel were discussed. The Board
will work to create a series of manuals that will provide essential information for putting on each of
the Club’s races, such as permit contacts, port-a-potty contacts, historical registration numbers,
volunteer needs, etc. The goal will be to have a manual for each race that can be consulted to ensure
the continuity and success of Club races.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 library time
