Board Members Present: Hal Gensler Norm Janoff David Bluestein steven finkelstein Board Members Absent: Diane Bailey Sandra Fontaine Megan Powers Bill Rowell Guests: Brett Bernacchi The meeting was called to order at 6:08 pm at the Glendale Library. Minutes from the January 2008 meeting and February 2008 were approved. Brett Bernacchi gave a presentation about TGen (based in downtown Phoenix). Brett's wife, Alana Lysholm-Bernacchi, passed away as a result of a brain tumor. Brett's wife was a researcher at TGen. Brett wanted to talk to the board about having the club join forcs with TGen to produce a race that would raise funds and awareness for brain tumor research. There were three venues where the event could be held. The facility near Fountain Hills seemed the best. David was going to provide his book of information on how he produces the Race for the Cheetah. The race will be called Alana's Champs. Old Business Volunteer Report: David wanted to know which events he needed volunteers. Those races are: 04/12 - Ahwatukee Foothills 5K, 04/19 - Pat's Run, 04/26 - Race for the Cheetah, 05/04 -- Arizona FOP 5K, 05/11 - Luck of the Draw and 05/24 - Summer Series #1. Registration Report: Sandra was not present and there was no report. Special Activities Report: Diane was not present and there was no report. Finance Report: Hal presented information indicating that so far, the club has spent more than it has received. The club has spent $7178.36 more than it has received. However, that is a $1603.00 improvement for the same time period in 2007. will provide his report under New Business in the year-end report. Membership Report: Norm reported that the current membership totals as of 23 Mar were 1,365, which is only 11 less than last month’s total. Clothing Report: Megan was not present and there was no report. ACS Peoria Relay For Life: Team ARR has raised $600 toward our $1000 goal. Bill is currently the sole team member. Heart -n- Sole Run: Race went well. Timed both the 5K and 1 Mile. Entries were slightly up from last year. No chips lost. Litchfield Park Run: Race went well. Used separate systems for the start and finish. Entries were slightly down. Two chips lost. Andre House T-shirt Donation: Nothing new. New Business Luck of the Draw Drawing: Hal indicated that Sharon has agreed to gather items for the drawing. Ahwatukee Foothills 5K - We will be working with David Allison to time this race. Non-chip timed because the systems are being used at the Arizona Ironman race that same weekend. "Mustang" Marathon - Jason Wall teaches middle school kids. They have been running miles. On April 16, the club will time his kids 26th mile with bibs and a finish chute. Currently, there are three races scheduled at various times of the day. steven will check to see if the race times can be adjusted. Pat's Run - John Magnuson is looking for volunteers to help from the 16th to the 19th. Run For The Cheetah - David reported that he has secured a permit for the race. (steven asked if he could do the same for the first summer series race.) Everything seems to be going well so far. AZ FOP 5K - This will be at Wesley Bolin Plaza. Still waiting for an insurance contact as well as word from the police on where the course can go. The meeting was adjourned at 8:08 pm.
