BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT Phil Davis Lindsay Edmondson Sandra Louise Fontaine Hal Gensler Norm Janoff GUESTS PRESENT Diane Bailey Bill Rowell David Bluestein The meeting was called to order at 6:37 PM. library time The meeting agenda was adopted and minutes from the previous Board meeting on 12/20/06 were approved as amended. TREASURERS REPORT Hal reported a current bank balance of approximately $26,000. He will obtain the fifth $5000 CD for the club bringing the CD total to $25,000. Hal presented the Board with the monthly income and expense report and stated the January business meeting cost the club $185 including tip. MEMBERSHIP REPORT Norm reported a total membership of 1668 and stated we have a turn-over of nearly 50% of our members in a given year. He said, "it appears we do a reasonable job of attracting new members, but retaining existing members seems to be one of our biggest challenges." Norm is willing to lead an ad-hoc committee to brainstorm ideas pertaining to membership retention and club members are welcome to volunteer for his committee. An outstanding demographic compilation showing current membership by Arizona cities and other states provided by Hal Gensler was presented to the Board. CLOTHING REPORT Sharon Ross remarked that clothing sales at the Rock N’ Roll expo were brisk. She also reported clothing sales from South Mountain Classic through this Board meeting totaled $2802. Outstanding work Sharon. REGISTRATION REPORT Sandra Louise reported on current registration for the Desert Classic Marathon and made this announcement for the membership. Beginning with Summer Series 2007, registration will close 15 minutes before the start of the event. NO EXCEPTIONS. This action represents the only fair way to permit volunteers and working Board members to compete. VOLUNTEER REPORT Our efficient VP Lindsay with the thankless job of acquiring volunteers did a great job giving out our volunteers of the year awards at the January Grand Prix awards and business/social meeting. Volunteers at our events remain the most important facets to successful events. Their unselfish efforts will no longer be overlooked as evidenced at the awards dinner. OLD BUSINESS Attendance at the January awards meeting totaled 45. Beautiful awards were presented to all Grand Prix age group winners and $100 gift certificates to the overall male and female winners. David Bluestein has created outstanding awards for the Desert Classic Marathon. Thanks David! Newspaper advertising pricing was again discussed. NEW BUSINESS A unanimous vote to elect Diane Bailey to the Board as VP of food was recorded. Thanks to Diane for her efforts to date and welcome. Kurt Leon has expressed interest in the directorship of club activities. Family style social activities every other month such as bowling, softball and others were discussed. Christiansen Trail Run next year will also include a 4 mile event. A motion was made to enter into a monthly advertising agreement with GetSetAZ for the year beginning in March and received a unanimous yes vote. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.
